I believe the push for instant gratification short changes people & dreams. Society has lost the ability to wait. In the process of attaining what we want NOW, we circumvent wisdom & insight necessary to carry the weight that comes with a calling.
Waiting is a teacher. Jesus’ 30 years in obscurity were necessary. They were fueled by an intimate 30 year connection to the Father.
The wait strengthens you.
Some old dreams are coming true for me today. It’s like a season of GO! 50 years of dreams, many fulfilled, yet some deferred. Waiting is strategic, it produces perseverance. It inspires endurance. Grit. Inner strength. The years of training, refining, determination and sacrifice equip us to bear the challenges these dreams hold. When you understand your dreams are inspired by God Himself you need not rush. You learn to hear from God alone! You become unphased by people’s flattery and learn to ignore criticism. You learn it’s not about you.
Circumventing the process of the wait will often crush us. God’s timing rules. I love the butterfly example. A butterfly in a cocoon requires the full developmental time. In fact, to attempt to help it out before its time will crush it. You see, the butterfly’s struggle to push its way through the tiny opening of the cocoon pushes the fluid out of its body and into its wings. Without the struggle, the butterfly would never fly.
Waiting is not passive. My life has been a beautiful adventure! A puzzle in process. Fulfilling a dream is like finding the right puzzle pieces…the search is part of the wait. Part of the training. Knowing you’ll find the pieces in God’s timing is wisdom. Seeking out the pieces is the adventure. Placing the pieces in place is victory.
The puzzle is not just about you, it’s about learning how your dream fits in to a bigger puzzle. Our dreams will always lead to collaborative efforts. Dreams are not simply about a destination, they’re about the training, lessons & building bridges in the process. Learn to appreciate the wait.
“Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts.” Isaiah 26:8
